There is almost a general understanding that putting your child in a team sport at an early age can be a huge benefit for them - this is the reason there are so many youth sports leagues. Aside from the obvious health benefits, it is said that team sports build character, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to face adversity, and the ability of knowing how to win and lose. It is also said that team sports keep your child out of trouble by keeping them occupied most of the time, and since their building a strong bond with their teammates, they'll be spending time with kids who have similar values, goals, and expectations. I am exploring the topic of athletes who participate in team sports. Some, on the other hand, believe quite the opposite. They argue that sports destroy children by letting them get accustomed to failure, and accepting it. Another argument is for those children who may not play as much as the others, that it destroys their confidence. I want to see if all of these things are true. I will do this by exploring research conducted by scientists and professors, weighing the opinions of journalists and bloggers, and drawing from the personal experience of those who have either been active in team sports or the parents of those athletes. I will bring all of these resources together and analyze each piece of information gathered to put together the most accurate representation of what the health, social, and character benefits of team sports are, or even whether they are beneficial at all. Using my analysis, one will be able to be able to come to their own conclusion on the subject just as I will come to my own educated conclusion after careful analysis and thorough weighing of both sides of the argument.
